What Happens in Squid Game Season 3?
Gi-hun has some big challenges on the horizon. The post-credits scene at the end of season two suggest as much. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk says Gi-hun is headed for some real trouble. His journey will end in a “dilemma” resulting from the death of his close friend, Jung-bae, caused by The Front Man.
As the show moves along, this becomes a huge decision point for Gi-hun. The audience will see him in a particular dire position, debating whether to cross the line and complete his mission, or give up and be ridden with despair. Thus, the third season is set up!
Hwang stresses to expect this not to be the Gi-hun of the second season. This upcoming season will reveal to the audience how he withstands the pressures of the game. Will he find his inner hero, or will the pressures of the game destroy him? It’s the fulfillment of Gi-hun’s character arc where themes of resiliency and choice will be put to the test in a world full of peril, where the only meaningful relationships exist between players who will betray each other. Fans are eager to witness who Gi-hun becomes and, ultimately, what he chooses to do in the new life that awaits him.
Is Squid Game a True Story?
As gripping as Squid Game was for the global audience when it premiered in September 2021, the epic games and dramatic appearance are a work of fiction. What is real are the deep social issues the series attempted to portray.
The character Gi-hun character represents these real world struggles. More specifically, Gi-hun's situation allegorizes a real event, the 2009 Ssangyong Motor Strike in South Korea, where over 2,600 workers were fired, revealing the violence behind the show’s allegory.
